Mongaup Creek
Mongaup Creek, May 22, 2026
Beamoc TU volunteers helped re-introduce a series of 175 native trees and shrubs along the banks of Mongaup Creek. Following a recent dam removal project by Trout Unlimited and NYSDEC, the newly restored riparian corridor is being replanted with a diverse mix of native species, including Red Osier Dogwood, River Birch, Willow, White Pine, and more.
As summer brings warmer temperatures and lower stream flows, these young plantings will need extra care to become established. Local volunteers can make a real difference by keeping a 5-gallon bucket or watering can in their vehicle and stopping by the site whenever they’re in the area.
If you’re passing through, please consider visiting the planting site near 307 Mongaup Road and giving a few trees a drink. A few minutes of effort today can help ensure these plantings survive to provide shade, streambank stability, and improved trout habitat for years to come.
